Gibson Es-335 is the world's first commercial thin-line arched-top semi-acoustic electric guitar manufactured by Gibson Guitar Corporation as part of their "Electric Spanish" series in the late 1950s. It cannot be considered a hollow guitar or a solid body guitar but falls in the middle with a solid wooden block running through the center of the guitar body. But it is left hollow on the side wings and beneath the f-holes(like that of a violin). The ES 335 model was an attempt by Gibson to produce a guitar that retained the rich tone of their original hollow bodied guitars at the same time that didn't have the feedback when amplified. Gibson originally produced only hollow bodied guitars, it was in 1952 that they produced the first crude version of their solid bodied Les Paul series Guitars.
Gibson ES335 Memphis Series Dot Reissue Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar, it's Features, Price and Comparisons
Features: Gibson Semi Acoustic Guitars are very pricey and they are mostly preferred by Blues and Jazz Guitarists. But that doesn't mean it can't chop out Crunchy Rocky Riffs. Gibson Guitars are legendary and have stood the test of time, and though expensive, you get what you pay for. For the same reason it's doesn't need any publicity, and it is every guitarist's dream to own this beautiful beast. The ES 335 Memphis is no exception and comes with a maple body, 2 Classic 57 Model Humbuckers which can produce the warm and refreshing tone for Blues and Jazz. The feedback from various satisfied customers highly recommend this model and say that it is one of the best Gibson models they have ever played which can easily handle anything from Rock, Country, Jazz and Blues. You will enjoy the playability of this big beast. It's extremely easy to use and you almost forget that you are playing a Semi Acoustic guitar.
Price: It is expensive and is priced at ,749 along with a Gig Bag which is after a 29% discount on the List Price of ,035.
Comparison:
1. The ES335 Memphis can be equated to "Fender Stevie Ray Vaughan Stratocaster" which can be considered the KING of all Fender Strats with special "oval" neck shape, Pao Ferro fingerboard, 3 Fender Texas Special single-coil pickups, gold-plated vintage hardware with left-handed tremolo, 21 Frets, and a special 'Stevie Ray Vaughan' engraved pickguard all in an Alder Body and Maple Neck. You will instantly notice it's beautiful Gold Plated Machine Heads and Bridge. This beauty is priced at a decent ,019 which is a 20% discount on it's list price. You will also get a Gig Bag free.
2. ES 335 has an equivalent competitor from the Ibanez stable - the Ibanez JEM77V Steve Vai Electric Guitar. Neck: 5-piece JEM Prestige neck which has a Basswood body, Rosewood Fingerboard, Pearl/ Abalone Vine Inlays with 3 DiMarzio Breed Pickups and is priced at ,499 which is again a 25% discounted price on it's list price. But you will get a case free with this. There are other variants in ES335 with slight changes in it's features, but my personal choice would be ES335 Memphis.
